What is this?

Fateless Worlds is a generic, rules light tabletop roleplaying game made for easy, quick, cinematic and narrative focused adventures.

Why play?

Because you have an idea in mind for an interesting or weird adventure, possibly a setting you haven't played before but really wanted to explore, and you want a game that will scratch that dice rolling and role playing itch, while focusing on fun, simple and story oriented rules.

What do you need?

A handful of 6 sided dice, something to write down the details of your characters and a group of players (including a Game Master).

More reasons to play

  • Generic. There is no specific setting in Fateless Worlds. You can think and adapt anything of your choice: Anime, Space Cowboys, Post Apocalyptic Survivors, Cyberfuturistic spellcasters and much more.
  • Cinematic. The game is suited towards adventurous themes of risk and reward.
  • Narrative. Rules focus on the story being told and are there to follow it and help you make it interesting.
  • Easy to Learn. Easy to Play. Easy to GM.
  • Player focused. Player's actions drive the narrative forward. Only players roll and all their actions can be done with just 2 moves: "Overcome" and "Set up an Advantage".
  • You are looking for a quick game, designed mostly towards one-shots or shorter campaigns.
  • You will roll many dice!

Inspirations

  • Fate: the whole idea of the game started from wanting to simplify Fate.
  • Apocalypse World: loving and wanting to incorporate the Partial Success rolls.
  • Blades in the Dark: progress clocks, risk and effect.
  • Ironsworn: players being able to stack advantages as in Momentum mechanic.

Safety and Discussion

DIscussion is at the heart of this game. Always discuss at the table what seems fun to you and what doesn't. You will find that many situations and rules can be approached in many different ways, so you should find those that fit to your group.

The discussion will also help you feel safe and avoid topics that could lead to unwanted situations. Consider also using safety tools, like Lines and Veils, to make these boundaries even clearer.

I love these genre-agnostic systems! Unfortunately, I don't have friends available to try it with, but I dig the concept :)

Thanks! Hope you'll find a group to enjoy the game. I had also playtested it as solo, so there's also that option if you like it :D
